What is the 5S grooming system?

According to the conducted research, if a person leaves his work environment disturbed due to fatigue, tomorrow morning when he returns and sees this environment, yesterday’s fatigue will reappear in his body.

This issue shows the importance of grooming system in organizations, how much it can be effective in increasing productivity.

This system was implemented for the first time by the Japanese and the name of this system consists of 5s:

Organizing Seiri

Seiso Cleanup

Order of Seiton

Standardization of Sekitsu

Discipline Shitsuke

5s is a prerequisite for the successful implementation of other systems and models, and its advantage is that it can be implemented everywhere.

The following examples can be mentioned among the imperatives of the implementation of this system:

• The work environment will be clean and organized.
• The life of tools and work tools increases.
• The cost of implementation is reduced.

Organizing:

It is to identify the tools needed at the workplace, the set of steps that we take in the workplace to determine what should be kept and what should not be kept, or to determine what tools are needed in a place and separate them from the tools that are needed. No need to separate. Each work area should contain only the items needed to complete the work in that area.

order and arrangment :

Everything in the workplace should have a specific place, and in fact, everything should be in its place. At this stage, we need to categorize the items so that it is easy to know where everything is located, like what a repairman has on his desk and easily knows where every tool he needs is located. When everything is in a proper and specific place according to the function and considering the quality and safety of the work, the workplace will always be neat and orderly.

Cleaning:

This principle goes back to the fact that we work in a clean environment with a better spirit. Cleaning means maintaining the workplace, improving the appearance of the workplace, and more importantly, preventing the workplace from getting dirty, such as throwing away waste and cleaning objects from pollution and foreign substances.

Standardization :

Standardization means constant control and correction of organization, order, order and cleanliness. This is important with periodic review, formation of inspection committees, use of signs and symptoms, etc. . . takes place

Discipline:

Discipline is the training of habits and abilities to perform a specific task. The key here is to create right habits instead of wrong ones. This work should be started by teaching people the right ways of doing work and training them in this field
